About UsHibiscus Surf School began in the spring of 2004 and continues to provide quality surf instruction to all levels of surfers, from beginner to advanced. The owners, Guy and Rebecca, are passionate about surfing and living in beautiful Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.Guy is a Kiwi with 16 years surfing experience-a self-taught surfer, he learned the "hard way." Now a professional Surf Instructor, he takes great pride in making surfing much easier for others. He lives by his motto "the best surfer out there is the one having the most fun." Rebecca grew up in Montana, skiing and loving the outdoors. She always wanted to learn to surf and moved to New Zealand to make the dream come true. She found Mount Maunganui to be perfect for achieving her goals and feels very lucky to live in such an amazing part of the world.
Hibiscus employs a select few Certified Instructors who also love to share their passion and enthusiasm for surfing with others.
What our students are saying:
“I had 10 lessons with Hibiscus Surf School over the summer of 2010-2011 I found their knowledge and practice was of the highest standard and quality. Guy’s skill as an instructor was 2nd to none and he made me feel at ease from the moment I met him. I would recommend (and have done) to others who are looking at trying new and excting sports.

__________________________________________________ Hi Rebecca Just want to drop you a line to say thank you for the surfing lessons. I loved the 5 day Surf Clinic. I am such a better surfer for it. I feel like I can go surfing anywhere confidently and have fun! Tracey Toomer December 2009 ___________________________________________________ Dear Rebecca and the Hibiscus Surf School team, Thank you so much for teaching our family how to surf. We absolutely had a marvellous time with you and highly recommend you and your school. We are all totally hooked and will see you next year for more lessons. Thanks again, Look us up when you're in the States. Lynda and John Eady and the boys. Feburary 2010
To Whom it May Concern, It is my pleasure to write a reference for Rebecca and Guy of Hibiscus Surf School. For many years, they have been responsible for giving lessons to many of our international students during their stay in Mount Maunganui. A lot of our students choose to study at Mount Maunganui Language Centre for the beach experience and we believe that surfing is an integral part of that beach culture we have at the Mount. Some students study with us specifically because they can study English in the mornings, and have surf lessons with Hibiscus in the afternoons. Those that don't choose this option frequently have a weekend surf lesson high on their "to do" list while they are here. We have no hesitation recommending Hibiscus Surf School. They have always been efficient, friendly, professional and safe and our students always return back with positive feedback and experiences. It's easy to direct them to the iconic red trailer and tent on Main Beach where Rebecca and Guy are easy to spot in their uniforms. We look forward to continued business with Hibiscus Surf School. Sincerely, Jacqui Todd Mount Maunganui Langauge Centre |
